Dear Patients,
The New Year is here and many of us are looking back on what we have accomplished and what we want for the future. For many of you, that means learning how to incorporate an exercise program to lose weight and get in better shape. Adirondack Physical & Occupational Therapy wants to give you a few important tips that will help meet your goals and how to stay healthy while exercising.
I. Eat plenty of Carbohydrates! Examples of good carbohydrates are; bananas, oatmeal, yogurt, salad with fresh vegetables, bake potato and high fiber cereal. Carbohydrates fuel our muscles for intense activity during workouts.
II. Eat enough calories and eat often! People believe eating less will help in losing weight; in fact it actually hinders the process. Your metabolism slows down holding as much energy as possible when you don’t eat and starve yourself.
III. Stretch before and after every workout! Stretching prepares your muscles for intense strain before the workout and stretching after the workout helps to cool down the muscles to normal resting potential.
